Our immediate needs that have emerged as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic are for personnel costs and technology enhancements. Support in these areas will help ensure limited disruption in client care and our ability to address clients’ basic needs and mental health services while on their path to achieving well-being.

Technology Enhancements
Technology support will give employees the ability to continue to provide essential case management and counseling services to clients in residential care through telemedicine or virtual means in order to limit the amount of face-to-face interactions required to serve clients. This allows staff to practice social distancing, while decreasing isolation for clients already experiencing mental health challenges. This funding would allow us to ensure all employees in need can receive hotspot devices, laptops, teleconferencing equipment and platform licenses. We have identified $28,000 in immediate technology needs and have raised $15,000 to assist us in this effort, and additional funds would allow us to leverage this further to help meet our actual needs.

Visit website
</info></logo>

Students will earn 30 hours of dual-credit college-level coursework that transfers to all public colleges and universities in the state, saving up to $10,000 in college tuition and launching “a trajectory away from generational poverty toward purpose, prosperity and contribution.” Elevate’s 24-7 mentorship model will help participants overcome challenges, achieve educational goals and develop socially and emotionally.

The Greater Indianapolis Multifaith Alliance (GIMA) plans to use the Faith & Action grant to expand the Eviction Court Watch teams and to expand GIMA’s lobbying efforts for the next Indiana General Assembly. With a focus on promoting equitable housing and ending Indy’s eviction crisis, GIMA will expand and systemize a cohort of congregation-based court watchers who keep an eye on Indy’s eviction court judges, who wield enormous power to affect families but who, in many cases, operate with little compassion or grace. The grant also will help to enhance GIMA’s lobbying efforts by supporting the engagement of a firm that can help inform policymakers about equitable-housing issues.

Faith & Action provided Heart Change with a grant to expand the Gift of Work program by adding a new product line to Heart Change’s social enterprise business, which gives women coming from intergenerational poverty jobs-skills training while also paying them a wage and surrounding them with supports and positive relationships. The expanded program will prepare two of the participants for supervisory roles, equipping them to serve as supervisors and trainers at Heart Change. The ultimate goal is for the new product line to become self-sustaining – like Heart Change’s original product line – and provide a livable-wage job for women involved in Heart Change.
<p class="MsoListParagraph" style="margin-left:.25in;mso-add-space:auto;

Prior to the COVID pandemic, Family Promise used a model in which congregations hosted families experiencing homelessness at their faith communities, with volunteers providing meals, transportation, childcare and more. When COVID prevented congregations from hosting families, Family Promise researched, raised funds for and launched a new model, the Apartment Shelter Program, through which Family Promise signed leases on apartment units throughout the city, which it offers as temporary shelter for families ineligible for eviction diversion or stabilization programs.

Community partner Mustard Seed of Central Indiana furnishes the apartments, while congregations provide housewares, which families take with them when they leave. Family Promise case management helps families maintain stable housing. The model costs roughly 30% less than traditional shelters and reduces the trauma associated with shelter living.

In 2024, Family Promise collaborated with over 26 congregations.

Visit website
</info></logo>
