Rev. Dr. Lisa M. Goods is the Senior Pastor of Shiloh Baptist Church in Cleveland, Ohio. She has the distinction of being the first female pastor in the church’s 173-year history. Her areas of study include womanist preaching, prophetic preaching, womanist pastoral care, and prophetic rhetoric. Specifically, she focuses on examining the prophetic speech of African American women and the ways in which Black women employ the womanist lens inherent in their tripartite oppression of race, sex, and class to speak prophetically and work to disrupt racial traumatization. Her dissertation research is centered on understanding how womanist pastoral preaching addresses the issues of trauma precipitated by racial and gender-based marginalization.
She chose CTS because she has deep respect and love for the uniqueness and discipline of African American preaching and its power to affect change. She says this program was unique in its particular focus on that, and it is the only program that truly recognizes the greatness of the Black preaching tradition. Lisa has a desire to pass that knowledge on to the next generation of preachers and scholars pedagogically.
Her recent accomplishments include:
