Jeffrey Johnson II is the Associate Pastor at Eastern Star Church in Indianapolis, Indiana. His area of study is in the creativity of preaching. Specifically, he wants to study the impact that culture, humor, film, technology and social media has impacted African-American preaching. For his dissertation, he wants to understand the role of cultural, communicative expressions in black preaching. How black preaching—viewed as a cultural, communicative expression—makes an impact in and out of the pulpit.
Jeffrey chose this program because he wanted to grow as a preacher while helping others improve in their preaching as well. He hopes to learn more of the legacy and tradition that he’s walking in as a preacher. This program, which has been instrumental to his introduction and exposure to classical and African rhetoric, has helped him become more aware of not just what he does but how he approaches the preaching process.
