The Parish Visitor shares in the spiritual care of Saint James United Methodist Church by providing visitation and counsel, as well as support to the Congregational Care Team, to promote the integration of faith, health, and healing among Saint James Church’s members and attendees.

DIRECT SUPERVISOR: Directing Pastor.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Visit homebound, elderly, and hospitalized individuals at the direction and in coordination with the Directing Pastor.
  • Coordinate the visitation and service of Holy Communion to homebound members by the members of the Congregational Care Team.
  • Create and maintain a confidential Pastoral Care Report to be shared with the Directing Pastor, Church Staff, and Congregational Care Team.
  • Offer community resource information to individuals at times of crisis, coordinating with the Directing Pastor. Maintain a directory of community resources.
  • Coordinate and/or lead group pastoral care opportunities as need and time allow, on topics such as bereavement, health, healing, spirituality, discernment, collective healing, and wholeness / social holiness.
  • Occasionally participate in Sunday worship services including, if a licensed/ordained minister administering the Sacraments, when requested by the Directing Pastor.
  • Serve as liaison to the Congregational Care Team, providing leadership alongside Directing Pastor to encourage and support this lay ministry.
  • Participate in weekly staff meetings.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Directing Pastor.

 

Qualifications:

  • Is a person of strong and evident Christian faith and has an abiding appreciation of the values and traditions of the Christian faith.
  • Possesses a college level degree in social work, counseling, or a related field.
  • Has a desire to serve and a heart for Geriatric-related justice and pastoral care concerns.
  • Has at least two years of experience in pastoral care, visitation, and small group facilitation.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills with empathy to meet people where they are as they encounter significant life events.
  • Can maintain strict confidentiality and objectivity.
  • Is self-motivated, able to work independently as well as on a team, having demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and listen effectively while also managing their time and tasks effectively and efficiently.
  • Able to work effectively with diverse cultures and ethnicities, all levels of socioeconomic status, gender identities and expressions, and sexual orientations.
  • Effective administration skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office Professional.

 

Compensation:

Salary will be commensurate based on education and work experience.
