Description
The Minister of Music position at Progressive Baptist Church is a Contract position. The individual(s) must adhere to the Mission and Values of Progressive Baptist Church as listed below:
Mission: We are called by God to grow our church by making disciples, ministering to the damaged, meeting the needs of the disenfranchised, and modeling Christ in our demeanor.

2. I invest in my church by giving a tenth of my income plus an offering to the ministry.
3. I pray daily for my pastor, my church and the lost souls to be saved.

Principle Function: The Music Minister will serve as a strong and passionate leader in both traditional and contemporary worship. They will have a vision for musical excellence and the ability to lead both instrumentalists and vocalists effectively. Proficiency in playing the piano and keyboard, along with the ability to lead congregational singing, is essential. Through the worship services, God will be praised and glorified, connections will be fostered among the congregation, and the unchurched and non-believers will hear the proclamation of the good news of Jesus Christ.
Qualifications:
● Education: A bachelor’s degree in music, Biblical Studies, Ministry, or a related field is preferred. However, candidates with degrees in other disciplines or with a High School Diploma may also be considered based on their ministry experience or ongoing educational pursuits.
● Worship Experience: Must be musically gifted and skilled in using various instruments to lead worship services. Experience in organizing and leading both traditional and contemporary worship styles is essential. Proficiency in multimedia development and experience in mentoring and cultivating worship leadership and musical talents in others is also required.
● Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead, develop, and hold accountable the Music Ministry team. Must be capable of delegating responsibilities effectively and recruiting others to participate in the ministry. A strong work ethic, a passion for music, and a commitment to continuous learning in ministry trends and leadership are essential.
● Teaching and Interpersonal Skills: Ability to attract, teach, train, and communicate effectively with others in a gracious, relevant, and persuasive manner. Strong relational skills are necessary.
● Organizational Skills: Must possess strong administrative abilities, with a keen attention to detail and the capability to organize effectively. Adherence to the church’s doctrines, bylaws, policies, and procedures is required. Must work well in a team setting, displaying flexibility and cooperation with church staff and leaders.
Job Duties:
● To provide instrumental music (organ, piano, keyboard, and/or drums) in order to create an atmosphere of worship.
● The ability to read and play music.
● The ability to organize, direct, and lead congregational singing, choir(s), praise team(s), and instrumentalists.
● Provide coordination of the use of music, instruments, and facilities.
● Attend staff meetings when scheduled.
● Attend planning meetings for special events.
● A willingness to work with a team concept.
● Develop and maintain a relationship with the pastor, staff, and ministries/ committee in designing worship and music choices.
● Provide updates and reports on the sufficiency, condition, and maintenance of instruments, as needed.
● Provide music that is in keeping with the mission and vision of Progressive Baptist Church.
● Set and maintain a regular schedule to perform these assigned duties, in addition to rehearsals and Sunday services.
● Support the development of new musical groups, as appropriate.
● Serve as a resource to church staff and committee leaders, as necessary.
● Serve as a resource to church members on a as requested basis regarding funeral and wedding services.
● Perform other duties as required or assigned.
Immediate Supervisor: Pastor
Cooperative Relationships: This Contract employee will be considered Church staff and will work with and under the direction of the Pastor, as well as the leadership prescribed in the Church Bylaws and Constitution. This employee will work as a team member with all church staff, as well as Ministries/Committees and congregational volunteers.
Compensation: Salary and compensation details will be discussed during the interview and based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, and the scope of the role.
