Position Overview
St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Indianapolis is seeking a Children’s Minister to focus on children’s formation and worship engagement on Sunday mornings for infants to fifth grade students, in addition to supporting children’s offerings beyond Sunday morning formation. Working collaboratively with the Director of Children, Youth and Family Ministry, staff and parishioners, this leader works to sustain and strengthen a parish culture which prioritizes integrating children more deeply into the entire community.
Responsibilities
- Manage and direct the Godly Play program - create the story schedule, train and check in with volunteers, ensure all the materials are in order, teach as needed
- Manage Children’s Chapel - update the curriculum and supplies, teach as necessary, communicate with volunteer leaders
- Manage the Nursery Staff - give and receive annual feedback, hire as necessary, check in frequently, hire additional support for one-time events
- Welcome new families - give tours, help families with children know what St. Paul’s has to offer them, reach out to connect with them later
- Minister to children, parents and volunteers - check in often, celebrate new babies, support families during times of transition and hardship
- Lead the Family Ministry Leadership Team which coordinates social and service events outside of Sunday morning
- Provide In Church Support Plans for children with disabilities and neurodivergences, help maintain the cool-down room
- Plan, communicate and implement Stewardship projects and lessons
- Recruit, lead team, plan, provide supplies during Holy Week programming
- Help train, connect and recruit kids to be involved in the worship service roles and Kids and Youth Worship Roles Training Day
- Recruit, lead team, plan, organize, lead rehearsal, provide sign up for Christmas pageant
- Support some All-Parish Events - Pancake Supper, Bingo Night, Cookies and Caroling
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Articulate Christian faith and love of working with children
- 2-3 years experience in a leadership role with elementary age children
- 2-3 years experience serving in a church leadership role
- Developed collaboration, leadership and volunteer management skills
- Excellent organizational, time management and communication skills (verbal and written)
- A team player who takes initiative with their role and can adapt, manage, prioritize and multi-task to meet the needs of the entire ministry and parish
Preferred Qualifications
- 1-2 years experience within the Episcopal Church
- Children’s Religious Formation training or education
- Experience with Godly Play
- Bachelor’s Degree
Time, Attendance, Benefits
- Hybrid position
- 20 hours/week. Sundays 8 a.m.-1 p.m. in-person; other hours flexible as determined with supervisor
- Hourly pay. Some weeks may be more than 20 hours because of parish events; some may be less. Hours, besides Sunday morning, can generally be flexed around your schedule, as determined with supervisor
- Paid for all time given. You will be paid for preparation time, supplies errands and continued education, in addition to in-person time
- Five or fewer Sundays off/year. Other than Sundays, time off is flexible as determined with supervisor.
