Rev. Larrin Robertson is the Pastor of Word For Life Church Ministries in Fort Washington, Maryland. He’s interested in the theological and rhetorical influences of expository preaching as a homiletical method within the tradition of African American preaching. For his dissertation, he plans to explore American expressions of expository preaching alongside the development of African American preaching. He’s focusing on A. Louis Patterson, Jr.’s homiletical method to identify the theological and rhetorical influences, as well as the social and cultural demands of African American preachers and how they shape and distinguish expository preaching in the Black church.
Larrin chose this PhD program to examine the intimate dance of theology and rhetoric and its impact on the development and deployment of homiletical method. He’s interested in expository preaching as a method within the tradition of African American preaching and was encouraged by Dr. Frank A. Thomas to engage in work that would sustain him while contributing to the academy and the church.
