On September 29, Christian Theological Seminary will welcome Rev. Dr. William J. Barber II, one of the leading voices in national social justice and political organizing work, as the keynote speaker for the Faith & Action Fall Event. Rev. Dr. Barber is the co-chair for Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival, serves as President & Senior Lecturer of Repairers of the Breach, and is Bishop and Pastor of Greenleaf Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Goldsboro, N.C. The CTS community is honored to welcome Rev. Dr. Barber back to campus following his powerful visit as the 2017 Commencement Speaker and honorary degree recipient.
In anticipation of this exciting event, CTS will host a community book reading and discussion of The Third Reconstruction: How a Moral Movement Is Overcoming the Politics of Division and Fear by Rev. Dr. Barber. An inspiring call to action from the 21st century’s most effective grassroots organizer, the book inspires the hope we need to unite for real change by telling the story of how Rev. Dr. Barber helped start a movement to bridge America’s racial divide. Our hope is that reading the book together and discussing how to apply its principles will lead to positive change in our communities.
This reading and discussion is open to all who thirst for justice and seek to make a meaningful difference in their communities. Participants’ reading of Dr. Barber’s book will be complemented with robust discussion led by Dr. Amy Lindeman Allen, Assistant Professor of New Testament at CTS.
