Christian Theological Seminary is pleased to announce that Rev. Courtney Buggs will join the faculty as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Homiletics in Fall 2019. Rev. Buggs was awarded the prestigious Louisville Institute postdoctoral fellowship to serve for two years at CTS. The Louisville Institute is a Lilly Endowment funded initiative that provides support for scholars and leaders who serve in North American religious institutions.
Rev. Buggs is in the final stages of completion of her PhD in Homiletics at Emory University. She completed her comprehensive exams “with distinction” in 2017 and has received numerous awards to include the Frederick Buechner Preaching award at Candler School of Theology, Emory University. An ordained American Baptist minister and retired Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Air Force, Rev. Buggs’ has provided congregational leadership in Germany, Republic of South Korea, Alaska, Oklahoma and Georgia. She has served as an adjunct faculty at Emory University and Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia.
Dr. Frank Thomas, Professor of Homiletics and Director of the PhD in African American Preaching and Sacred Rhetoric at CTS says “I am tremendously excited that a person of such excellent academic and professional experience and character would join the faculty at CTS as a Visiting Professor. Courtney’s expertise in preaching and teaching preaching will strengthen the prominent preaching of PhD program in African American Preaching and the Master of Divinity program. She is a great addition to CTS.”
Rev. Buggs will begin her tenure at CTS on July 1, 2019.
